Format for Final Herpetology Research Papers
Structure: 5 page essay, double-spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman font, document
margins one inch on all sides; TITLE PAGE SHOULD BE AN EXTRA PAGE, not
included in total, with name, date, title, course number, and section; no extra spaces at top
of page or between paragraphs. Paper can be greater than 5 pages but not less.
Subject material: Choose a topic that is interesting to you within the field of herpetology, but that is not too large to tackle in a five-page essay. You may write on your class project topic if you wish.
Introduction [1-3 paragraphs]
—What topic did you investigate? Why is it interesting and important?
Main Body [multiple paragraphs]
—Explore and discuss primary literature in your topic of interest. Include information from at least ten primary literature sources (i.e. journal articles, NOT websites).
—Discuss at least three future directions or projects that could be pursued with respect to your topic of interest.
