University Food Company Online Ordering Case(F)

In an attempt to integrate their online ordering capability into the rest of their production scheduling process, the University Food Company wants to model and analyze the associated activities, which can later be used as a part of its larger efforts to implement a workflow management system. When a customer places an online order with the University Food Company, several activities must take place before the sale is confirmed via displaying a Web page that informs the customer that the order has been accepted. These are as follows:

1. Process payment. Based on the customer’s credit information on file, which includes the customer’s bank account information, the payment for the order is processed. If the payment cannot be processed for reasons such as the available funds are insufficient, the customer is informed and the workflow instance terminates.

2. Schedule production. While the customer’s payment is being processed, the current production schedule is updated to include the customer’s new order.

3. Select shipper. Based on the delivery schedules of the shippers that University Food works with, a shipper is selected (if available) that can deliver the order on the selected delivery date. If none of the shippers can deliver the product on the selected date, the order is canceled with the production department, payment is credited to the customer’s account, and the customer is informed.

4. Finalize sale. If payment for the order is processed and a shipper is available to deliver the order on the selected delivery date, the sale is finalized by informing the customer.

The activity diagram of Figure CS10.1 describes the coordination of the preceding activities. Complete the following exercise to aid the University Food Company in this project.

(a) Describe the set of tasks and actions that must be incorporated into the workflow definition.

(b) Determine the intertask dependencies for the online order process, and illustrate them with an intertask dependency diagram.

(c) Complete the top-level state chart diagram for the online order process.

(d) Complete the lower-level state chart diagrams for the tasks defined.

(e) Provide the final lower-level state chart diagram for the online order process.
