Kay worked very closely with Mrs King and would often visit her in her own time. Kay felt she had a good relationship with Mrs King and was therefore quite concerned when she was told that her involvement would soon have to come to an end due to a reorganization of the workload. She had made a major emotional commitment to this particular client and felt very unhappy about not continuing her work. Kay explained her feelings to Mrs King who, at first, was touched by Kay’s loyalty to her. However, this feeling was shortly to be replaced by anxiety as Kay stressed more and more how unhappy she was. Mrs King felt very distressed by the strength of Kay’s response to this situation, a fact that came to light later when she discussed her concerns with the worker who had taken over from Kay.
